Vietnam’s 3G to be licenced in 2007

Vietnam will follow its ASEAN partners to launch 3G services.

The Ministry of Post and Telematics (MPT) is checking technical standards to prepare for the issuance of a regulation on using frequency bands for the 3G network.

The MPT plans to issue a business licence to the first firm that meets conditions to offer 3G services next year.

Doan Quang Hoan, Director of MPT’s Wireless Frequency Department, revealed that the policy on licencing 3G network services had been considered for a long time. Due to of a lack of management regulations, the MPT has not licenced any firm yet.

“We are working with some big international telecom groups to learn about their experiences in frequency allocation before issuing the rule on frequency use and business operations”, said Mr Hoan.
