Shop and sell in Indonesia’s e-commerce sites

Posted on October 21, 2010 by in Business, Featured

In a nutshell, the country’s e-commerce sites grow gradually due to payment’s mechanism issues. Since PayPal is not popular here, and number of credit card holders is also still few, that’s why most of existing e-commerce sites also offer another payment option to their customers: bank transfers. Whatever works.

Despite the fact some payment issues, many people convinced that e-commerce had tremendous potential in the country. According to one of eBay execs, Oliver Hua, items sold on eBay by merchants from Indonesia to overseas buyers grew 200 percent a year.  A recent survey claims Indonesia’s Internet penetration reached 45 million by 2010, compared to only one million in 1999.

There are many e-commerce sites out there, but I just picked some of them up here (listed in alphabetical order), especially sites that offer selling and buying experience as well.

PayPal to open app store for developers

Posted on February 25, 2010 by in Tech

Following its partnership with Facebook, PayPal started to engage developers community to create another opportunities. Since there is no serious competitor on this space, PayPal seems moving very fast and confidence…

PayPal will open an applications store this year where developers can offer their wares, the latest step in the company’s multi-pronged strategy to deepen its relationship with external programmers.

Developers have a big opportunity to offer applications for merchants and consumers that PayPal doesn’t have the interest or resources to build itself, a PayPal official said Tuesday.

“It could be an invoicing application for a merchant or a ‘daily deals’ application for consumers,” said Osama Bedier, vice president of PayPal’s Platform Business Unit and Emerging Technologies.

Facebook partners with PayPal

Posted on February 19, 2010 by in Business

Facebook is partnering with eBay-owned PayPal, enabling people to buy Facebook Ads and Credits.

Facebook and PayPal today announced a strategic relationship to offer PayPal in key parts of Facebook’s advertising and developer systems. “As our business has grown, offering local methods of payment has become increasingly important for advertisers who want to buy Facebook Ads. Teaming with PayPal, a global leader in online payments, makes this possible.”

As part of the relationship, advertisers around the world will soon be able to use PayPal to pay for Facebook Ads through the company’s online advertising tool. For businesses in areas where the payment process can be difficult and expensive, the option to pay with PayPal makes it even easier for advertisers, particularly small international companies, to run campaigns on Facebook. Facebook reaches more than 400 million people, 70 percent of whom live outside the United States.

In addition, PayPal will become a payment option for Facebook Credits, which is currently being tested in a small number of games and applications. The goal of Facebook Credits is to give users a fast and easy way to buy virtual goods on Facebook, including items from the Facebook Gift Shop.
