In a nutshell, the country’s e-commerce sites grow gradually due to payment’s mechanism issues. Since PayPal is not popular here, and number of credit card holders is also still few, that’s why most of existing e-commerce sites also offer another payment option to their customers: bank transfers. Whatever works.
Despite the fact some payment issues, many people convinced that e-commerce had tremendous potential in the country. According to one of eBay execs, Oliver Hua, items sold on eBay by merchants from Indonesia to overseas buyers grew 200 percent a year. A recent survey claims Indonesia’s Internet penetration reached 45 million by 2010, compared to only one million in 1999.
