Security implications of new Facebook email service

Facebook’s new messaging system has raised concerns regarding risks from cybercriminals and spam spreading, according to Sophos. They suggested Facebook users to take greater care of their account than ever before, just in case if this data misused and “fell into the wrong hands,” said Graham Cluley (@gcluley), senior technology consultant at Sophos.

…the new messaging system allows users to send not just links, photos, and videos to each other – but also external files such as documents and spreadsheets. These could be malware-infected or carry spam messages. It’s unclear at the moment whether Facebook will put any restrictions on the types of files that can be attached to messages.
