Apple updates OS and prices for MacBook Pro with Retina Display

Apple updates specs and prices of MacBook Pro series with Retina Display. The goal? To attract more customers, of course. The 13 inch and 128 GB flash capacity variant will be offered at $1499, while the one with 256 GB flash capacity and 2.6 GHz processor is settled at $1699. In 15 inch sizes, Apple offers faster processor with 2.4 GHz and 2.7 quad-core processor. Moreover, there’s price slice (to $1399) for MacBook Air with 256 GB flash capacity.

Hewlett Packard to built new mobile device with Android?

Rumor is flowing that the current owner of ill-fated webOS is ready to enter mobile device realm again, this time with Android. Hewlett Packard (HP)’s first Android product is told to be high-end tablet powered by NVIDIA Tegra 4. It’s still unlikely for HP to reveal new Android smartphone this year, as implicitly saying by HP CEO Meg Whitman. With PC sales already leapfrogged by tablets, it’s understandable that PC biggest maker tries to jump and joining tablet race.

AOL acquired gdgt

Media giant AOL acquired gadget database site gdgt. It will be another session for gdgt’s co-founders Ryan Block and Peter Rojas since both are formerly Editor in-Chief of AOL’s Engadget. Peter Rojas was also the founder of Engadget. It’s still business as usual for gdgt, but it will operate closely with Engadget for its nationwide tour. Both Block and Rojas will be back at Engadget desk, largely as advisors.

Gartner: Mobile Phone Sales Dropped in 2012

Latest Gartner report reveals that worldwide mobile phone sales to end users totaled 1.75 billion units in 2012, a 1.7 percent decline from 2011 sales. Yet, Gartner predicts that sales of worldwide smartphone sales to end users will be close to 1 billion units in 2013, and overall mobile phone sales to end users are estimated to reach 1.9 billion units. Samsung and Nokia still in the top two of all mobile phone producers, with Apple is thrilling at #3. The report also said that Android continue dominating the smartphone scene with 70% marketshare, while iOS single handedly grabs 21%.

Apple now tops Japan mobile market

For the first time after 6 years, Apple’s iPhone successfully becoming the most popular mobile device in Japan for the whole year. iPhone dethrones Sharp from its comfortable position, leaving Sharp and Fujitsu in 2nd and 3rd place. This position is reached with iPhone being offered by two major operators, KDDI and Softbank. Country’s largest, DoCoMo is yet to sell any iPhone.  Previously, several major foreign manufacturers, like Nokia and Motorola, had faced obstacles to grow the businesses there.
