A lecturer of the University of Indonesia (UI), Ade Armando was charged with defamation case involving the university’s former director of student affairs, Kamaruddin.

The Faculty of Politics and Social Sciences lecturer –and activist of the ‘Clean UI’ movement– said he was charged for insulting Kamaruddin in a series of blog posts published on his personal blog.  The articles posted on January 29 and March 4, 2012.

The communications expert denied the claims. According to Tempo news website, Ade said that he never definitively stated that Kamarudin committed graft, but only exposed the alleged graft practices in UI campus which included delaying the disbursement of scholarship funds for months.

“[The corruption] is systemic,” he said.

Last year, media also reported that the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) has found some irregularities in the country’s top university’s budget management that may have caused state losses of nearly Rp 45 billion (US$4.95 million).
