Internet giant Facebook has announced that it has launched Instant Articles in India, where the social network counts 130 million users. Instant Articles publishers make dedicated content, which is hosted by Facebook, and which loads within the app itself.
Starting this week, Android users in India already able to browse content from five local publishers through the Instant Articles feature on their Facebook app. Five major publishers that’s already on board in the service: India Today, The Quint, Aaj Tak, Hindustan Times and The Indian Express. Facebook will open the platform to other publishers early next year.
“We have just started our Android beta and are immediately coming to India with great partners which is a big milestone for us,” added Mitchell.
According to Reckhow, “We are launching in India on Android as the country is a heavy Android user market. Besides, Android is designed to be fast; so articles load quickly on Android and thus can be quickly read.”
Until now, the feature-rich content service was available only on American and European’s iOS devices. Facebook has just begun beta testing the service on Android, so it’s likely that the most awaited Instant Articles feature will roll out across other countries soon.
