This was really a priceless moment. I had a chance to meet and talk with former Indonesian President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie at Deutsche Welle’s Global Media Forum in Bonn, Germany, yesterday. Pak Habibie is one of key panelists in the conference.
His presidency (1998 – 1999) was the third and the shortest duration after the country’s independence. However, under his leadership, the country succeeded not only in conducting the first free and fair general elections in 1999 but also in bringing about significant changes towards democratization, reform and free press.
Yesterday (June 25) was also Pak Habibie’s birthday. Happy birthday, Mr. President!
